Ficus flourish in Mexico: The Real Dirt | Toronto Star: "Finicky Ficus. I got rid of mine years ago, because its leaves kept falling off and making a mess.
Now I know why. This potted plant that’s beloved by real estate people (who always haul in a big ficus or two when they want to fluff up a place with ugly decor) just doesn’t belong in our northern homes.
It’s only really happy down south, where it can live out of doors. That fact hit me this past winter, when I spent a couple of months in a Mexican village called Ajijic (pronounced A-hee-HEEK), escaping our endless snow and working on a book."
