Banana Vs. Plantain | The Difference Between: "Difference Between Banana and Plantain
Banana
Banana family consists of large plants that thrive in moist areas up in the tropics. This edible fruit has a lot of carbohydrates and a source of vitamins A and C and the minerals potassium and phosphorus (see vitamins and minerals). The familiar banana is yellow-skinned, sweet, pulpy fruit of international commerce. Of the different varities, only a few widely grown and only two are exported. Wild banana plants tend to grow up in the tropical forest, which are usually felled or burned.
Bananas are the major food crops in the tropics. From 80-85 percent of the banana crop in the world is grown locally for domestic consumption. Consumers in the tropics not only eat raw, ripe fruit but also cook bananas that produce similar starchy foods like a potato.. Some are fermented to make beer, and some are dried. In upland East Africa, especially in Buganda region in Uganda, banana is even considered basic staple foods."
