When Bill Doerter's sister, Jill Brunton, gave him his first banana plant five years ago, he never realized how it would help him with his battle against cancer.
Doerter's banana plants multiply every year and are now practically filling the backyard of the home he shares with his wife, Pam. The healthy banana trees, which have produced several bunches of sweet fruit, have even caught the attention of several Southwestern Indiana Master Gardeners who stop by to check the progress of his tropical garden.
