Vomiting bug spreads palm tree-killing disease | wtsp.com: "Lakeland, Florida -- A vomiting insect is spreading a disease that is killing some of the state's palm trees.
Officials say the disease, Texas Phoenix Palm Decline, was first detected in the state back in 2006. The disease is apparently spread by a plant hopping bug that infects healthy palms by vomiting into the leaves.
Monica Elliott, a professor of plant pathology with the University of Florida says there is no cure for the disease. However she says an antibiotic is being used to keep the disease from progressing in infected palms."
