Exotic moonflower blooms at night

Russell Studebaker: Exotic moonflower blooms at night | Tulsa World

I always marvel and am impressed with the flowers and growing performance of the moonflower, Datura inoxia, which are in full array this time of year. The traffic island triangle at South Troost and 22nd Place features an impressive planting of moonflowers. This plant has several other common names: thorn apple, angel's trumpet, stink weed and prickly burr.

Moonflower is a member of the Solanaceae family, the nightshades. But do not confuse moonflower plants with the moon vine. Moon vine has a similarly sized white flower and also flowers at night, but it is an annual vine that looks like a giant morning glory, which is the family to which it belongs.
