Orchids: Otherworldly beauties | The News-Press | news-press.com: "When The News-Press photographer Kinfay Moroti ventured into the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve in Fort Myers recently, he made a discovery. High above the ground, clinging to a tree trunk, he saw a slender spray of five-pointed stars, lime green edged in amethyst, surrounding a dab of violet-smudged white – a wild butterfly orchid.

Photographing them was no easy feat. It required patience, flexibility and acrobatic climbing skills. But the result, which graces this week’s cover of Tropicalia, was worth it, he says.

Although the rare ghost orchid, another native, has grabbed headlines in recent years, Moroti’s wetland butterfly, with its subtle shading and delicate form, was thrilling in its own right."
